TIRANA, October 12th 2020 – In an attempt to limit the spread of COVID-19, as of today, the wearing of face masks has become mandatory in all public spaces across Albania.
The number of cases of the coronavirus has rapidly increased in the last few weeks in Albania, so Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced additional restrictions in order to battle to virus. From today it has become mandatory to wear a face mask everywhere, from the moment you leave your house or hotel. Apart from your own home or hotel room, the only exceptions are bars and restaurants where people consume food or drinks.
In practice these drastic measures mean that it’s even compulsory to wear a face mask on the street, in your car, or even in parks or nature. People who don’t comply could be subject to fines, the Prime Minister said.
Although it’s unclear how strict this will be enforoced, we recommend to be mindful of others and comply with the local rules in order to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.
