About The Ethnographic Museum
The Ethnographic Museum is located in the old town of Gjirokastra, on the site of the house where former communist dictator Enver Hoxha was born and raised. The original house was completely destroyed by a fire and a reconstruction took place between 1964 – 1966. The new building is different from the original house and was designed by copying elements of other typical classical Ottoman buildings, to become a model house of the traditional style.
The building is now a museum and nothing inside is related to the former dictator or his belongings. The museum hosts opjects reflecting the traditional interior of a 19th century Gjirokastrite household, including all kinds of artefacts, household items, kitchenware and clothing.
