Gjipe Beach is not only considered one of the best beaches in Albania, it even tops many of these ‘favorite beaches’ lists. Due to its remote location, totally secluded in a beautiful canyon with spectacular rocks and amazing turquoise waters, Gjipe Beach is a true paradise on the Albanian Riviera. Here is everything you need to know before visiting the amazing Gjipe Beach.
How To Get To Gjipe Beach
Gjipe Beach is located in the Gjipe Canyon, between the towns of Himara and Dhermi on the Albanian Riviera. Due to its remote location the best way to reach Gjipe Beach is by car, or with a taxi from the nearby towns of Dhermi or Himara. You can’t park directly at the beach, so from the car park you need to hike your way down to the beach. There is a path through the forest that takes you to the beach in about 25 minutes, so we recommend to take good shoes.
Hiking path to Gjipe Beach
By car you can reach the car park at Gjipe Beach in about 1.5 hours from Saranda (66 km), or 25 minutes from Himara (14 km), or 12 minutes (7 km) from Dhermi. From the main coastal road to the car park, the road is asphalted and in a good condition, but the small road doesn’t allow cars to pass one another. Every few hundred meters there is a bay so cars can pass each other in opposite direction.
You can also take any mini-bus (furgon) that drives between Himara and Dhermi to drop you off at the main road’s exit, but from there you’d have to walk to the car park for 2.5 kilometers, and then also hike all the way down to the beach.

Facilities At Gjipe Beach
Since Gjipe Beach is so secluded and hard to reach, there is not much civilization around, but there are a few beachs bar selling some refreshments and food in the summer months. However, to prepare well for your visit and the hike to the beach, bring plenty of water, some snacks or a lunch and off course don’t forget sunscreen. There is also a camp site at the beach if you’d like to stay here overnight and camping in the wild is also allowed. The camp site also sells daily access passes to use their bathroom and shower facilities.
Bunkers At Gjipe Beach
When the hiking path brings you out of the forest you will see many concrete bunkers alongside the coastline. These bunkers can be found in many places along the Albanian coast and were built by the communists during the Cold War to protect the coastline.
