About The Monastery Of Saint Mary
The Monastery and church of Saint Mary (also referred to as Panagia Monastery) is an eye-catcher on the top of the hill in the village of Dhermi. The monastery has an amazing view over the old village, Dhermi Beach and the Ionian Sea.
The monastery consists of a walled area with a cemetery and a church in the middle. The church is of the basilica type with a dome and was built in the 13th-14th century. Some interesting afrescoes were added in 1781 by the Archbishop of Himara and Delvina, Ioanni. On the walls inside the church you can also see some beautiful mural paintings.
