About The Saint Sotiri Church
The Saint Sotiri Church was built in 1784 and can be found on the steep slope of Gjirokastra Castle, below the Clock Tower. The church (also called Old Metropolitan) used to be the seat of the local orthodox bishop. Unfortunately the church was heavily damaged during the ban on religion during the communist times, so there’s not much left of the original mural paintings inside the church. Next to the church is a tall belfry, which can be seen from far away.
